Action Research
In today's ever changing world, educators must be prepared to face all sorts of new challenges. Action research gives educators the tools to develop measures specific to their campus and allows reflection and change. This process does not promote a stagnant campus culture, but one that can grow over time. As an administrator I can see how action research would be beneficial. I would promote collaboration to compile data and ask questions to stay one step ahead of the challenges we face on our campus. As a teacher I would use action research to reflect on my own classroom practices to constantly review student learning. Their are many ways to implement action research in our schools today. Any type of ongoing education is an action research tool. University coursework like the one I am currently engaged in and like the ones so many others are engaged in gives a great look into what new procedures are out there for teachers and administrators to use. Collaboration with administrators and teachers also falls under the action research umbrella. Leadership teams in schools are one type of collaboration that can address many concerns and lead to the developement of new strategies that work best for a particular school. Administrators now have the tools to combat many more challenges through the use of the strategies under action research.

Brian, nice thoughts on preparation of educators facing new challenges. In order for us to be productive we must be able to collaborate to stay on top of our many challenges as an administrator.
ReplyDeleteBrian, it is very important to use self-reflection as a teacher. We are always looking to improve and that is a great way to make the improvement. You will be great as an administrator by making that same commitment.
ReplyDeleteI think we must remember that to be a great leader we must first be a great follower. We have to continue to learn and improve our practices and action research is a tool make that possible in a systematic way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comments on action research. Many times we feel that we are out by ourselves trying to figure everything out by ourselves. What we forget is that collaboration is a great tool in figuring out what solutions to our problems. It gives us an opportunity to see what others see in the same situation you have. More ideas provides a wider prospective to a similar problem the group is having.
